2nd Developer's Note (Legend Balancing)- February 2019 Soccer Spirits
How’s it going? This is the Soccer Spirits Development Team.
Since August 2018, we’ve been busy with official competitions, large updates, and Spirit Stone balancing. As a result, we’ve gone a long period without balancing legend players.
Thus, many users may have experienced a growing concern that balancing was being put aside, so we’ve decided to get straight to it.
This large-scale legend player balancing will take place across two patches on Mar. 6th and 20th.
In this developer’s note, we will reveal who we plan to balance, and talk about our direction.
Please understand that the actual changes will be detailed in the patch notes.
Take a look at this table that overviews who we will cover:
Developer's Note February 2019 -2 legend balance
[Buff]
1. Choi (Ardor)
Although Choi gained some use with the addition of Legendary Unique Stones, his presence has decreased considerably given the flow of the current midline meta. If he is capable of taking the lead, he can make a big impact. However, more often than not, he is unable to, and cannot regain any momentum for the rest of the match.
He is the kind of player who has a lot of variable ups and downs due to his skillset, so we will focus on making it more consistent.
2. Khirel (Whirlwind)
We think Khirel is in a better spot now than when he was mainly used just for his teamwide totem in the past. However, we have Queen and Duke rising in popularity lately, and considering the direction the meta will head toward in 2019, believe he is in need of an update now. We plan to buff Khirel to increase his use in PvP.
3. Duran (Whirlwind)
Although Duran was a staple of the backline in the past, a lot of competitive defenders vying for the spot have been released lately. We plan to adjust his debuff passives to be more fitting of the current meta.
4. Bell (Thunder)
Bell is a player who is considered to have clear advantages and disadvantages. We will try to focus our buffing on her Super Play mechanic. Unlike the early days of Soccer Spirits, we think her Super Play is currently underwhelming given how much more common the skill is now. There are times when, even with Super Play, Bell can end up harming herself and losing the trade. Thus, we are planning to increase her individual offensive power.
5. MX83 Askeladd (Thunder)
MX83 Askeladd has held a unique position in PvE in the past, but has lost a bit with the introduction of Nabi. Since she is intended to be a backline player, we will be aiming to improve her PvP performance in that role.
6. Queen (Thunder)
Queen is a common pick in Galaxy Live, but we’ve noticed in Galaxy Super League she is a bit more obscure due to her particular skillset. We are going to buff Queen to make her easier to use than before.
7. Garriott (Light)
Garriott is a backline player who is highly dependent on being able to use his active due to how he was designed. However, we realize the issue still remains where he cannot use it reliably at times given the AI in auto matches.
We plan to adjust the way some active skills are used overall. This will be Garriott’s buff as well, and will be added in the Feb. 20th update.
8. Duke (Light)
Duke is a player who still sees some play given the recent meta, but his overall position is not the same as in the past. With the attacker update we did, we gave him a new active that shares stats with others in the vertical line. However, we admit that we overlooked the need to adjust his skill values at the time to give him more damage, which is the key trait for attackers.
We are still discussing the manner in which he will be buffed.
9. Presty (Dark)
Presty is a player who was greatly impacted with the introduction of Legendary Unique Stones, despite having a strong skillset and various builds. We’ve decided that it was time to take a look at her to keep her relevant, and would like to buff Presty. She is a player who is affected by many factors in the match aside from her own performance. Her buff will be considering many scenarios.
[Nerf]
1. Ein (Ardor)
Ein is a goalkeeper who has dominated the Galaxy League for quite some time. She shows weakness to utility strikers, but when she is able to satisfy the right conditions, would be incredibly durable. Depending on the team composition, these conditions would be much easier to meet, which we found to be an issue that was compounded especially in Galaxy Live. Her durability when having an amulet charge can be almost as strong as a block, so we plan to nerf this part.
2. Serestia (Dark)
If you had to choose who was the most influential player in the midline right now, it would have to be Serestia. She is a player with high utility all around, from skillset to stone build. Preventing the enemy from attacking, being able to reduce their defenses, action bar, spirit, etc. – she has such a strong skillset that it makes her a very impactful player. We plan to adjust some values to a more reasonable level.
3. Ashe (Dark)
Ashe is a strong player who can be described as the most well-round and top-tier player right now. He has very good offensive power, an influential active skill, and a powerful totem that makes him a strong midliner. Galaxy Live has enabled a lot of strategic plays surrounding his active, and in seeing his rise to the top, we feel that he is due for a nerf. He has risen quite a lot since we buffed his individual power, and will be nerfing with this in mind, in addition to other problem areas.
4. Cypher (Dark)
While Serestia and Ashe has seen a bit of controversy, Cypher would have to take the crown in being the most talked about. We tried to give him a weakness to be covered in stones with his low penetration stat, but it seems to be forgone in return for a reliance on his active skill stacking and building critical rate. Not just this, but we realize that we may have simply given him too much. We believe his debuff is too strong, and that he has too many opportunities to shoot. We’ll be making various adjustments overall.
[Adjustment]
1. Raphaela (Light)
Although Raphaela is weak to certain offensive teams, she is a player who can show tremendous durability. We want to maintain the satisfaction felt in becoming tanky once conditions are met, but will also be re-arranging values in terms of damage reduction and critical resistance. The goal is to give some flexibility in using her in a team.
[Future Plans]
Any legendary player not mentioned so far is still under discussion on if/how they should be balanced.
We would like to explain the reasons why some other legends have not been mentioned yet:
The impact of this major legend balancing
The impact of planned stone balancing
The impact of new legends to be added in 2019 and their synergy with existing ones
These three reasons were the key points in why we chose the players we’ve mentioned first, while some have not been brought up.
With the introduction of the Spirit Stone recall system, it’s given us a lot more freedom to balance stones. We will also try to be more proactive in balancing legends.
It may be asking for a lot, but we greatly ask our users to be understanding as to why legend balancing has been slow overall. We truly hope to improve our response time going forward.
Thank you,
The Soccer Spirits Development Team.
