Developer's Concept Art Note - December 2018 Soccer Spirits

Hello! It’s me, Hairy Developer again.
For this developer’s note, I’ll be talking about the legendary player, Jiho, and process that led to the creation her Live skin.
Jiho was the first legendary player where we tried 3 patterns of artwork with completely different images for Normal/Evolution/Extreme Evolution versions.
Our main purpose was to show how Jiho grew up through the Normal-Evolution-Extreme Evolution versions.
I remember the expressions of “wow” from meeting attendees as they saw the concept arts.
In the first draft image of Evolution version, Jiho, who is slightly grown up, was sitting down and wearing stockings.
However, since the player card image of Jiho is assumed that she is playing soccer, we decided not to have her sitting in the image and finally changed the image to Evolution version we have now.
The current version of Extreme Evolution has a different facial expression from the rough image.
The facial expression used to be more “dreamlike,” but we decided to put a smile on her face on the final version.
In case of the Legendary Skin, there were various ideas about the theme such as “flag-bearer” or “princess” at the planning stage. However, many people said such ideas have little connection with Jiho, so we decided to set the theme of graffiti artist to maximize her cheerfulness and presence in team Underground.
We tried to make Jiho look little younger than in the normal images to maximize her cheerfulness.
With consideration to the line art and coloring, we were sure that Empew was the right person for the artwork.
The pixel sunglasses of the early concept art for the skin inspired me to wear similar ones in the CvC tournament.
Afterwards, when it was decided that Jiho would be the one to receive the first Live Skin, we were set to make it based on the original concept of the Evolved version with her sitting.
We believed it was the best position to fit the range of live 2D applications and to show Jiho’s feminine beauty.
At first, we had two drafts, but after discussing with Qbase, a Live 2D artist, we ultimately selected Draft B which is more favorable for moving actions.
Plus, the song that Jiho sings in the hidden motion of the Live Skin is from part 11 -13 seconds of “Reborn,” the song of 3rd Anniversary Special video.
We had a desire to get the most out of the 4th Anniversary update in which our Live 2D was introduced for the first time.
As a result, we changed the previous title screen, which was represented as a soccer field, to the screen where the Live Skin is shown.
We tried to show her resting quietly in the locker room, since the story of Jiho’s Live Skin is set in the time right after her retirement match held between her Normal and Evolution stage.
Since she was in team Underground, we’ve added some of the items of the players of her team such as clothes and boots of Death Queen and some other clothes of Elaine and Jean at the locker room.
(You might want to keep this trivia in mind for a future quiz event we’ll be holding.)

The “Final” literally means to finalize and wrap up the year, so we hope everyone can enjoy the celebration.
