[Guide] Strategies to deal with CO-OP Defense™ Soccer Spirits
(Updated 24th March 2016)
Before you can deal with CO-OP Defense, you need to have a good understanding of how it works first.
CO-OP Defense affect different PvE/PvP Strategies differently.
Therefore, I will discuss the effects of CO-OP defense on the different PvE & PvP strategies and how to deal with it respectively.
*In addition, there are 'BUGS' that are part of how CO-OP Defense is working at the moment.
We will have to strategize, with these 'bugs' being taken into consideration, until they are removed.
These 'bugs' might be part of the actual desired CO-OP Defense that we did not expect, who knows?
What is CO-OP
CO-OP is a new mechanism where up to 3 players within the line can come together defend against your player.
Every player within the line has a 2%~20% chance to join in the 3 man CO-OP Defense, based on their Defense stat.
Please note, not the mechanism has a 20% chance of being activated but every player has a 20% chance of being activated.
This means that if you are facing a 4 man backline with a GK (total 5 man) and you try to shoot at a defender + a GK:
Therefore, as you can see, the chances of CO-OP happening can be VERY HIGH.
Currently, we still do not know the relationship between CO-OP activation probability and Defense stat.
The chances of CO-OP defense happening, is HIGHLY dependent on this relationship.
Tweaking this equation will allow the developers to control the CO-OP chances easily.
How does CO-OP Defense work?
Let's say, when your player tries to penetrate a 3 man mid-line of Bell - Meta - Beth,
Similarly, against an open-door lane, an enemy player may appear to CO-OP and blockade your player despite the lane being OPEN.
Priority of Chosen CO-OP players
Current CO-OP "Bugs"
#Dead Player joining CO-OP Defense
As you can see from the below picture, the 'dead' chitose is appearing for CO-OP Defense
#Dead Player counterattacking and moving to the next line
#Ally Player join enemy team CO-OP Defense
On CoD 37, after Cynthia was killed, my Metatron joined enemy team for CO-OP defense against my Bell.
I sold her (Metatron) after the match. Just kidding.
How does CO-OP Defense affect PvP?
In PvP, we must try to make use of CO-OP to our advantage instead of trying to deal with enemy CO-OP advantage.
Overall, besides nerfing OHKO & blocking open lanes, CO-OP defense effects on PvP is of little significance.
How does CO-OP Defense affect PvE?
Conclusion
Overall, the issues regarding CO-OP defense are overly exaggerated.
Main issues lie in the fact that:
Other than the above, the rest of the unhappiness stem from the "BUGS" that are happening at the moment.
When the bugs are removed, we believe that CO-OP defense can work more effectively in serving the SS population.

What is CO-OP
CO-OP is a new mechanism where up to 3 players within the line can come together defend against your player.
- This applies to shots & penetration ONLY.
- This does not apply to steal.
- Each of the other 3 players in the backline will have up to 20% chance of joining the defender + GK for a 3 man CO-OP.
- This will mean a total of up to ~48.8% chance of CO-OP happening.
This is based on the probability calculation of all the other 3 backline players not joining in the CO-OP:(1-0.2)x(1-0.2)x(1-0.2) x 100% = 51.2% - (1-0.2) refers to the 80% chance of CO-OP not happening.
To consider all 3 backline players not joining CO-OP, hence the probabilities are multiplied together.
Take 100% - 51.2% and you will get 48.8%, the chances of CO-OP happening. - This is assuming all the other 3 backline players have the max 20% chance of joining CO-OP
Let's say, when your player tries to penetrate a 3 man mid-line of Bell - Meta - Beth,
- All 3 of them can come together to defend against your mid-line penetrator regardless of their position.
For example, if your Kiki is penetrating against Bell, Meta & Beth can appear beside her to form a 3 man defense.
Therefore, it is possible to encounter 3 man CO-OP even against a 3 man mid-line.
Similarly, against an open-door lane, an enemy player may appear to CO-OP and blockade your player despite the lane being OPEN.
Priority of Chosen CO-OP players
- The enemy players that are in front of your player will have #1 priority to defend against your player, up to 3 man.
- If any of the 3 man in front of your player is dead, other players in the line with have a chance to join the 3 man CO-OP based on their defense.

How does CO-OP Defense affect PvP?
- The 'OHKO' meta
With any 3 man CO-OP, OHKO has become impossible at endgame.
To deal with it:- Adapt to the new meta & switch to a more reliable 2HKO team
From another perspective, the defending side will have 2 defenders down due to your striker shot.- So if you are on the defending side, you want a backline of defenders instead of leaders.
- Because leader AI starts to block and do not do anything at low HP
- Player AI
3 man CO-OP Defense messes with player AI, causing players to pass the ball instead of penetrating through - Guarding against open-lanes
Now reflex line buffs are becoming more important since players can CO-OP and defend against open lanes.
So having a high reflex mid, even the lane is open, another player can appear to CO-OP and CA enemy now
Metatron proc is especially significant when CO-OPing with other mid-line players now.
This makes metatron even more powerful than before because she can appear anywhere in mid-line now.
- Colosseum of Despair
- OHKO strategies are affected
Either adapt your strategy to allow for 2HKO or reset until CO-OP Defense does not occur
Mainly affects everyone CoD floors that one used to OHKO
Also affects CoD score run where OHKO strategy is used.
More crystals needed to be spent to reset to avoid CO-OP Defense - GK Tank strategies are affected
This happens when you tank and hold the ball with your GK.- Lots more damage taken when CO-OP happens
- An Elaine who gains 100% more reflexes when attacked appears and CA your GK (Floor 50 CoD).
- A low HP front-line enemy CO-OP can prevent you from stalling at the backline (Vitos etc)
- Lots more damage taken when CO-OP happens
- OHKO strategies are affected
- Infinite Strategies
- 2 main issues here are damage taken and damage dealt to self-healing GK
CO-OP results in much higher damage that can kill one's infinite player - CO-OP results in less damage dealt to self-healing GK.
Usually we infinite penetrate the enemy defender to death.
So with CO-OP, we simply penetrate the other defenders to death too.
However, with the bug of the dead CO-OPing with the living, this becomes a huge issue.
The dead players keep appearing for CO-OP resulting in lowered damage against self healing GK.
At endgame PvP, this 1v2 damage difference can result in not being able to deal enough damage to kill the enemy GK.
Hence, it is frustrating. - Dead player counterattack and move to the next line BUG
If you have lower reflexes than the enemy player that you are penetrating, the dead player can CA you and move to the next line
- 2 main issues here are damage taken and damage dealt to self-healing GK
- White Guardenia Ball Trapping Strategy
- When you are trying to trap the ball in enemy backline with WG, CO-OP defense can result in the failure of this strategy
Your ally player might be killed; especially in a long match
- When you are trying to trap the ball in enemy backline with WG, CO-OP defense can result in the failure of this strategy
Conclusion
Overall, the issues regarding CO-OP defense are overly exaggerated.
Main issues lie in the fact that:
- People are unhappy that they can no longer OHKO in PvE consistently when CO-OP Defense happens.
This applies to everyone and thus, is fair to everyone. You have a choice to reset or to employ a consistent 2HKO strategy. - People are unhappy that their infinite strategies are failing due to their infinite players' inability to sustain due to higher CO-OP damage
When a strategy fails, use another strategy or strengthen your player and change your formation/ace/stones respectively to make it work. - People are unhappy that certain PvE content cannot be done consistently, like CoT 5-6 due to CO-OP.
We do agree that no strategies to clear any PvE content should be RNG based; as to whether if CO-OP happens.
There must be a consistent RNG independent strategy available, for every PvE content.
Which will allow any PvE content to be cleared consistently, even if CO-OP happens.
Other than the above, the rest of the unhappiness stem from the "BUGS" that are happening at the moment.
When the bugs are removed, we believe that CO-OP defense can work more effectively in serving the SS population.
