Understanding the Old & the Newly Revamped Ravian™ Soccer Spirits
In my own strikers' guide, Ravian ratings has been revised twice, from S to A+, then again from A+ to B+.
This will be her 3rd rating revision but there has been much interest in her new skill changes.
So I've decided to write a discussion on the effectiveness of her skill changes.

The 2nd, 3rd & 4th nerf, probably came around the same time.
These 3 overall nerf, resulted in Ravian final drop in ratings in PvP, and an overall drop in rating from (A+ > B+)
So how did Ravian initial S rating came about?
Before we look at Ravian current revamp and how it will affect her overall ratings, lets have a last look at why Ravian was given an initial S rating.
Will Ravian be able to ever return to her former S rating glory? Impossible.
So how does the new skills change work out for Ravian?
First, lets look at the skills change:
Active:
Before: [Shoot] Increases Attack Power by 120% and critical damage by 50% (Spirit Cost: 1.5, Cool Time: 12m)
After: [Shoot] Increases Attack Power by 25% and critical rate by 25% (Spirit Cost: 0.5, Cool Time: 2m, Accumulates up to 5 times)
Passive: "Gravity Down"
Before : Inflict 20% damage to the enemy team with a shoot
After : Deals 20% HP as damage to enemies within the position and increases the damage they receive by 20% with a shoot. (The HP damage will become less effective each time you use it.)
Hence, Ravian gained critical rate on active with active & 20% more inflicted damage on GK.
Now the question is, how will this affects Ravian's ability to PvP and PvE.
PvP:
Will this make Ravian a 2HKO striker?
Very unlikely but the damage increase will compensate for the % HP damage loss from the mechanics nerf.
So this change probably brings ravian damage back to the level before % HP damage mechanics nerf, PvP wise only.
PvE

Before we start, first, we need to examine Ravian initial S rating and the nerfs that she experienced.
There are a total of 4 nerfs to Ravian: 3 indirect nerfs and 1 direct nerf.- The first nerf that resulted in the drop of her S rating, was the change in PvE goalkeeper design.
This came after everyone was cheesing the first dark legendary boss, "Alice" with Ravian.
Subsequent legendary bosses, came with HP self heal feature to make it harder because players were showcasing team pictures beating "Alice" with only 6,000 TA.
This self heal feature was eventually extended to CoD goalkeepers, CoD champions goalkeepers etc. during Season 4 CoD update.
This made Ravian irrelevant in PvE matches and contributed to her elaborate drop in ratings (S- > A+).
The 2nd, 3rd & 4th nerf, probably came around the same time.
- The second nerf was the PvP AI change.
Ravian 20% HP to enemy team used to affect leader/defender AI to a huge extent.
This is because leader/defender AI used to stop penetrating when below 80% HP.
So with 2 ravian shots, enemy team leader/defender are basically disabled.
But with the change in AI, ravian HP damage no longer matters unless you get the leader/defenders to red HP. - The third nerf was the % HP damage mechanics change.
Ravian % HP damage is no longer a constant 20%.
The % HP damage drops after every shot and every other % HP damage done. - Lastly, the PvP meta change.
Last time, the PvP meta was more of a critical resistance meta where many strikers take > 2 shots to kill enemy PvP goalkeeper.
Then Raklet critical resistance/HP totem was removed and changed.
So the critical resistance meta became less effective and less reliable.
More and more players are using OHKO striker and can kill enemy goalkeeper with OHKO or at max, 2 shots.
So Ravian became less preferred, since ravian requires a minimum of 2 shots to kill enemy GK.
The initial preference of Ravian over other strikers came from Ravian consistency to kill enemy GK in 2-3 shots.
But when other strikers can kill GK in 1-2 shots, Ravian attractiveness dropped.
These 3 overall nerf, resulted in Ravian final drop in ratings in PvP, and an overall drop in rating from (A+ > B+)
So how did Ravian initial S rating came about?
Before we look at Ravian current revamp and how it will affect her overall ratings, lets have a last look at why Ravian was given an initial S rating.
- OP in PvE
Highest self heal GK only do a 15% self heal.
Most GK don't have self heal. So Ravian was able to cheese them easily.
There was no % HP mechanics nerf. - OP in PvP
Able to kill enemy GK in 2-3 shots consistently; less or equivalent shots as compared to other strikers.
Damage to enemy whole team; affecting players with leader, defender AI specifically, even attackers too.
- % HP damage nerf will be a hit to Ravian in PvE forever.
- 20% HP damage currently is useless against GK that heals 30% HP
So PvE is still a goner for Ravian. - Current OHKO/2HKO meta, makes Ravian which requires 2~3 shots to kill enemy GK less preferred.
No one would choose a 2-3HKO striker instead of a 1-2HKO striker.
So how does the new skills change work out for Ravian?
First, lets look at the skills change:
Active:

Now the question is, how will this affects Ravian's ability to PvP and PvE.
PvP:
- First, we look at Ravian 'final critical rate' with active
Will ravian be able to crit with her active against enemy PvP GK?
Ravian first shot critical rate with active = 50% + 22% (Blue receiving pass in prism slot) + 25% + 20% (Luka) + 30% (Totem: Veronica etc)
Total possible first shot critical rate = 147%
Lucian GK usual critical resistance = 165%++
So its unlikely for ravian to crit with active on first shot.
Unlikely for 2nd shot either.
So critical hit will most probably happen 3rd shot and after.
Hence, doesn't change Ravian's overall shot damage except probably 25% more attack power on first shot and 50% more attack power on 2nd shot. - Usage on Ravian active might even take away spirit for your own GK block active.
So it's a double edge sword. - Ravian also gets 20% more inflicted damage on enemy GK.
So overall Ravian gains attack power + 20% inflicted damage on her first and 2nd shot.
Will this make Ravian a 2HKO striker?
Very unlikely but the damage increase will compensate for the % HP damage loss from the mechanics nerf.
So this change probably brings ravian damage back to the level before % HP damage mechanics nerf, PvP wise only.
PvE
- Ravian ratings (A+ > B+) further dipped after % HP damage mechanics nerf, especially against 30% HP self heal Jin.
- Does this gain in damage help Ravian gain value in PvE?
Nope, Ravian did not gain damage in PvE.
Because it is possible for Ravian to crit against PvE GK and yet, Ravian lost 50% critical damage from active now. - Hence, in PvE, Ravian actually lost damage.
So in conclusion, Ravian skill re-design did make her damage higher in PvP but lower in PvE.
