[Guide] How to maximize/increase your Colosseum of Despair (CoD) score?
(Updated September 2015)
This guide discusses the mechanics of final match score calculation for any matches, including CoD matches.
Strategies/Pitfalls to maximize your CoD score will also be discussed.
To maximize your Colosseum of Despair (CoD) score:
Someone else figured the methodologies out and posted it on reddit.
Please read the source for the detailed methodology to determine the final match score of any match.
Maximum CoD Score Achievable
The maximum CoD score achievable, not inclusive of CoD Champions Score
= 4,120,950 points
This is determined empirically by others and recorded on this OP spreadsheet

The final possible achievable score is dependant on the number of CoD Champions you meet and their strength.
Final CoD score = Normal CoD Floors Score + Total CoD Champions score
Strategies to Maximize your CoD score
After reading the detailed methodology regarding the calculation of final match score, you have noticed that the only things that we can control are:
To maximize your CoD score, what you need to do:
So how do we achieve the maximum top 3 players points?
Assuming that you have not read the detailed mechanics of how it works,
2 of the top 3 player points will definitely come from your assist and your striker.
Below is a short abstract of how player points are calculated.
Now we look at the 'perfect' player points that you need to achieve at any floor.
So looking at the match points for CoD 50, the points are 20760.
So, to maximize your CoD score, these are the only 2 things that you need to do but you definitely need to plan ahead.

Final Match Score is made up of 4 components: Match points, Player points, MVP points, Time points.
Match Points
Determined empirically and can be found on this spreadsheet

To calculate the CoD champions score:
Player Points
Each player has its own score. A player gets points with its actions, calculated by the following formulas.
Important things to note:
Next, the game takes the top THREE players with the highest points on a team.
Then, it modifies their score by the following formulas if their score is higher than the "Match points."
A player's points cannot be higher than the "Match Score," else it is scaled down. If it is lower, it remains the same.
Finally, the total player points is just the sum of these 3 values.
Total Player Points = Player1 points + Player2 points + Player3 points
Time Points
"Time Points" requires the time the match took.
time = minutes + seconds/60
For example, 5:48 is equivalent to 5.8.
Then, "Time Points" is calculate by the following.
Time Points = Player Points * (1 - time/(time+40))
MVP Points
Only 1 team can get the MVP bonus. It is given to the team with the higher score.
Ties are broken by giving it to the team with the highest scoring player.
"MVP Points" is just the score of the highest scoring player on the team.
If that player's points are greater than "Match Points," then the "MVP Points" is equivalent to the "Match Points"
If Player1 points > Match Points:
MVP Points = Match Points
Else:
MVP Points = Player1 Points
Total Points
Final Match Score = Match Points + Player Points + Time Points + MVP Points

To maximize your Colosseum of Despair (CoD) score:
- First, you need to understand how to calculate the final/total match score of any matches.
Someone else figured the methodologies out and posted it on reddit.
Please read the source for the detailed methodology to determine the final match score of any match.
- A summarized gist of the reddit post, is included at the bottom of this post.

The final possible achievable score is dependant on the number of CoD Champions you meet and their strength.
- The score that you can obtain from beating a CoD champ is determined in the same way as stated in the match points calculation mechanics.
Final CoD score = Normal CoD Floors Score + Total CoD Champions score
Strategies to Maximize your CoD score
After reading the detailed methodology regarding the calculation of final match score, you have noticed that the only things that we can control are:
- The top 3 players points.
- The time that we complete the match
To maximize your CoD score, what you need to do:
- Get the maximum top 3 players points
And hence achieving close to the maximum theoretical achievable points for each CoD floor - Minimize the time that you take to complete each CoD floor.
So how do we achieve the maximum top 3 players points?
Assuming that you have not read the detailed mechanics of how it works,
2 of the top 3 player points will definitely come from your assist and your striker.
- The player points for any player are calculated via the LAST action of the player.
Below is a short abstract of how player points are calculated.
- Penetrate, Steal, Shoot: Player points = damage * 10
- Pass: Player points = pass * 13.6
- Goal Shoot: Player points = damage * 11.6
- 'Perfect' player points happens when player points >= maximum possible match points for a CoD floor, recorded empirically on the spreadsheet.
- Match Points
Determined empirically and can be found on this spreadsheet

So looking at the match points for CoD 50, the points are 20760.
- So for your striker, your final shot damage needs to be more than 20760 / 11.6 = ~1790.
This should be easy for any OHKO striker.
- So for your assistor, your final pass needs to be more than 20760/13.6 = ~1526.
This is hard as 1526 pass takes into account only the player stat and does not include pass increased due to player's active, stones etc. - So for the last player point, this can be achieved via your attacker or your assist at midline/frontline.
For attacker, your attacker needs to deal 20760/10 = 2076 damage as his last action
For assist, the last pass action needs to be ~1526 as determined above.
So, to maximize your CoD score, these are the only 2 things that you need to do but you definitely need to plan ahead.
- Beat the match asap
AND - Achieve the 'perfect' player points for 3 players;
Namely, striker, assist and either attacker/assist of your choice as their last action
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
- After you penetrate with your attacker to the frontline, your attacker pass instead of penetrating.
This results in your attacker last action to be a pass and results in a score relative to the pass instead of the penetration damage. - Using Ravian striker.
Ravian is a non-OHKO striker that has issues achieving the 'perfect' player points for a striker.

To calculate the CoD champions score:
- Champion Score = 1500 + Champ Level * 70
Player Points
Each player has its own score. A player gets points with its actions, calculated by the following formulas.
- Penetrate, Steal, Shoot:
points = damage * 10 - Pass:
points = pass * 13.6 - Goal Shoot:
points = damage * 11.6
Important things to note:
- The value of "pass" does not include Active pass skills and Increased Receiving Effect. It is basically the pass value seen on a player's stat sheet.
- A player's points is only affected by his/her LAST action.
If Duke penetrated through the line for 2,000 damage (20,000 points) and then passed for 150 (2040 points). Duke's score is only 2040, not 20,000.
Next, the game takes the top THREE players with the highest points on a team.
Then, it modifies their score by the following formulas if their score is higher than the "Match points."
- If Player1 points > Match points:
Player1 points = Match points - If Player2 points > Match points:
Player2 points = Match points * 0.92 - If Player3 points > Match points:
Player3 points = Match points * 0.84
A player's points cannot be higher than the "Match Score," else it is scaled down. If it is lower, it remains the same.
Finally, the total player points is just the sum of these 3 values.
Total Player Points = Player1 points + Player2 points + Player3 points
